Business launched in lockdown opens first magic shop and healing space in Derbyshire

With the last remaining coronavirus restrictions lifted in February 2022, many of us are slowly returning to our old daily lives. Over the past couple of years a number of small businesses have been launched throughout the many lockdowns but now things are back to normal, how are these businesses holding up?

Angela Sandland and Katie Abey launched Happiness Enchanters during the first lockdown in 2020. The couple, who live in South Wingfield and Boulton Moor respectively, started by creating oracle cards to help people with their mental health and well-being. be during isolation.

Their lightweight decks have been so successful that they are now stocked all over the world, as far away as Singapore. Now the duo are taking the next step in their journey, with a store and healing space opening in Matlock in July.

The new space, called the Room of Enchantment, is located just off the High Street, next to Kate’s store, Punnydukes. The couple had been discussing finding a place for about six months and think having the stores next to each other is ideal.

“We are not a store, rather we are a space, and people can also rent it. But we will hold our own events there, like during summer vacation, like make your own magic wand, aura spray, spell pot so anyone who loves fantasy or witches and wizards can come and do some really cool activities.

“It’s like living out my childhood fantasy through my own business,” Angela said. The couple will be offering a number of sessions, including cocoa therapy, which they call choco-magic.

Other events include quirky crystal workshops, stone healing sessions, and creative therapy groups for people who want to tap into their creativity, but aren’t too keen on spirituality. Sessions will be priced from free events to teaching Reiki, at around £100.

“We are trying to make it accessible to everyone, we don’t want to scare anyone, everyone can participate. The room is like an enchanted forest, it will be mostly an open space – we have brought in an artist and paint it for us” , said Angela.

The store’s open house will be on July 23, and Angela and Katie are looking for budding musicians, looking to showcase their music, to come play at the event. You can follow Happiness Enchanters’ journey on their Instagram page, @happinessenchanters.
